Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br /> March 21, 2018 —Draft Minutes <br /> Page 16 of 17 <br /> 671 <br /> 672 Youth Commissioner Iverson commented they could have the movie be a separate event. <br /> 673 <br /> 674 The Commission agreed that doing both the movie and a book would be a good option. <br /> 675 <br /> 676 As a way to support this event, Youth Commissioner Iverson suggested the Commission read the <br /> 677 chosen book and participate in some of the discussion. <br /> 678 <br /> 679 Youth Commissioner Hansel commented in the past$100.00 has been allotted for refreshments. <br /> 680 <br /> 681 Commissioner Peterson stated they also need to make sure the movie rights allow it to be shown. <br /> 682 <br /> 683 <br /> 684 Other News, Business or Reports <br /> 685 <br /> 686 a. Staff Report <br /> 687 <br /> 688 Ms. Olson reported she received an inquiry from the Shoreview Human Rights liaison on <br /> 689 whether the HRIEC is interested in participating in some collaborative efforts. They did not <br /> 690 have anything specifically outlined at this point. The City of Shoreview has already gone <br /> 691 through a year of GARE training and may have similar information and focus. <br /> 692 <br /> 693 The Commission agreed they should always open to collaboration. They are working on the <br /> 694 proclamations and that is what some of the HRIEC events will be tied to. <br /> 695 <br /> 696 Ms. Olson requested volunteers for the Multicultural Festival which takes place on March 29 <br /> 697 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Roseville Area High School. <br /> 698 <br /> 699 Commissioners Djevi, Groff, and Youth Commissioner Hansel agreed to attend this event. <br /> 700 <br /> 701 Commissioner Groff stated at this event in the past, they helped pass out plates and silverware. <br /> 702 <br /> 703 Commissioner Peterson commented they also had a table and spoke with people at the event. <br /> 704 <br /> 705 After discussion on what should be available on the HRIEC table, the Commission agreed to <br /> 706 have Ms. Olson update both the Commission and Volunteering handout. She will also see if <br /> 707 there is a banner that can be used on the front of the table and include other City informational <br /> 708 brochures. Commissioner Djevi volunteered to pick up the information before the event. <br /> 709 <br /> 710 Ms. Olson reported she has been attending monthly Refugee Consortium meetings where <br /> 711 organizations share information on refugee resettlement and issues surrounding immigrants and <br /> 712 refugees. It was reported that the number of refugee arrivals are significantly lower than in <br /> 713 previous years. From October 2017 to February 2018 there were 221 arrivals. For the same time <br /> 714 period last year, there were 834 arrivals. Due to housing, there are not as many people settling in <br /> 715 Roseville. <br />
