MDA staffed a booth at the Shade Tree Short Course March 13-14. MDA also presented “Is EAB in that Ash?” to
160 tree professionals.
EAB Field Workshops were held in Lakeville March 19-23, and Duluth April 3-5. About 150 people attended one
of the 22 sessions that were offered.

BIOLOGICAL CONTROL
Winter sampling has been completed and preparations for the summer field season are taking place.
Whole tree sampling was completed at Fort Snelling and Great River Bluffs State Park. Tetrastichus planipennisi
was recovered from EAB galleries at both sites; 8 clutches of T. plannipennisi from Fort Snelling and 7 clutches
from Great River Bluffs.
Bark sifting to recover the egg parasitoid Oobius agrili was conducted at 11 release sites including Fort Snelling
and Great River Bluffs. 21 suspected parasitized eggs and one adult wasp were sent to the Forest Service for
identification from 6 sites. We hope to have new recovery locations as well as some information on rates of
parasitism from the two state parks.
So far there are 7 sites that will receive bioagent releases this summer. Four are located in the twin cities area, 2
in Duluth and 1 in Stewartville.

13
