Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br /> February 21, 2018 —Draft Minutes <br /> Page 4 of 10 <br /> Chair Holub suggested they create a plan on how to develop an event, but not pick an actual <br /> event to focus on. She inquired how it would work best to review the existing proclamations. <br /> Ms. Olson reported the Police Officers Memorial Day is typically associated with International <br /> Police Week and the Police Department holds several events related to it. The Commission <br /> agreed to leave it with the Police and Civil Service Commission. <br /> Regarding Constitution Week, Ms. Olson noted the Daughters of the Revolution typically bring <br /> the Constitution Week proclamation forward. <br /> The Commission agreed the Fair Housing Month proclamation is within its scope and could be a <br /> great learning opportunity for the public. <br /> Youth Commissioner Hansel referred to the Older Americans Month and inquired if they wanted <br /> to limit it to just that. The Council suggested they create their own proclamation and suggested <br /> they include Older Americans Month under Disability Awareness Month. <br /> Chair Holub noted that not all older Americans have disabilities and suggested they include both <br /> proclamations. The Commission agreed. <br /> Commissioner Djevi stated Race Equality Week could be included under Black History Month, <br /> but there are other races involved. <br /> Commissioner Groff suggested they include it and get more information on it. <br /> Commissioner Dailey noted mental health, disability, sexual exploitation, Native American <br /> History Month, and Asian American History Month were items mentioned at the Council <br /> meeting as possible topics to include. <br /> Commissioner Peterson suggested they reach out to groups to get feedback on language. <br /> Chair Holub stated she is not sure if they have the authority to do so. <br /> Ms. Olson responded based on the Council's direction, they have the authority to seek assistance <br /> from outside sources if they are reviewing the language. <br /> Commissioner Groff stated they could get templates from groups and determine if it is <br /> appropriate for Roseville. <br /> After discussion, the Commission identified the following proclamations they will review, along <br /> with the Commissioner who would review it: <br /> 1. Martin Luther King Day - Commissioner Reyerson <br /> 2. Black History Month- Commissioner Djevi <br /> 3. Women's History Month - Commissioner Peterson <br /> 4. Constitution Week - Commissioner Dailey <br />
