Native American Month
I think there are more locally-relevant proclamations that the City could consider to pay tribute to its
Native American/American Indian residents, including American Indian Month and Indigenous
Peoples Day. American Indian Month (May) is a well-known occurrence in the local community, as
many organizations hold events, open houses, and powwows to commemorate the month. Indigenous
Peoples Day is declared in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Grand Rapids, and other cities in Minnesota and
across the country in place of Columbus Day (second Monday of October). I would like the
commission to have more discussion before we proceed with any language.
For inclusion:
htti2s:Hindigenouscities.com/msp/calendar/2017-05/
https:Hmn.gov/governor/assets/American_Indian_Month_tcm1055-92370.pdf
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&ved=OahUKEwjb3YaN0Or
ZAhXQmgOKHZMwD5 s QF g_g-
MAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmn.gov%2Fgovemor%2Fassets%2F2016_10_10_Indigenous_Peoples_
DU tcm1055-259680.pdf&usg=AOvVaw3e3R38EGNxjuFaBBaUZJBT (sorry that URL is so long)
http://www.ci.minneMolis.mn.us/www/groups/public/Lclerk/documents/webcontent/wcros 1p-
123839.pdf
