Roseville Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement <br /> Commission <br /> Agenda Item <br /> DATE: March 21, 2018 ITEM: 8a <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION: Staff Report <br /> Background <br /> • Staff received an inquiry from the Shoreview Human Rights Commission. As part of their <br /> 2018 Action Plan they would like to add "Seek collaborative opportunities with Ramsey <br /> County Library in Shoreview and Roseville, Roseville Human Rights, Inclusion and <br /> Engagement Commission, and Do Good Roseville". They are seeking feedback on <br /> whether the HRIEC is interested in being involved in any joint opportunities with other <br /> Human Rights Commissions. <br /> • Staff attended a monthly Refugee Consortium Meeting in February. These meetings are <br /> an opportunity for agencies and organizations to share information on refugee <br /> resettlement, and issues surrounding immigration/refugees. As part of the February <br /> meeting, information was presented on the number of primary arrivals for the metro <br /> area. The total number of metro arrivals for October, 2017— February, 2018) were 221 <br /> refugees. For the same time period the preceding year, 834 arrivals were documented. <br /> With 221 refugees resettled so far in FY18, metro agencies are currently at 26% of <br /> where they were at this time last fiscal year. <br /> • Staff has been working on homework related to the GARE program. The second meeting <br /> of the cohort is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 21 from 8-12p.m. Staff <br /> anticipates having information to share in an update at the April meeting, and <br /> potentially presenting an update to Council in April/May. <br />
