Item 8a.
Park Planning Engagement
Background
Over the past few months, Commissioners signed up to attend two different on-going engagement
events for new parks that are to be built at Marion Street and Cleveland Avenue. The purpose of
attending these events was to evaluate the success of the city's engagement efforts. Parks and
Recreation staff has done a lot of work on the back-end of the planning process, much of which was
unseen and done outside of these events. The Parks and Recreation department uses their Community
Relations and Public Engagement Plan when they design events such as these. That plan is attached. It
may be helpful for the HRIEC to brainstorm bullet points in the following manner to evaluate what they
observed.
What did you see as successful? What opportunities are there to enhance the
successes?
Recommendation
Review what Commissioners saw at the meetings, and what opportunities they see.
