Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes November 15, 2017—Draft Minutes Page 12 of 16 Commissioner Manke commented she would like to present the welcome material and photo project plan at the next HRIEC meeting and open it up for discussion. They can make recommendations to the Council and their level of involvement can be written in to the proposal. Commissioner Djevi noted they should consider how to welcome people into the City. Commissioner Groff commented they must be sensitive to the time expectations they place on other departments. The photo project may be something the Arts Roseville group may be interested in. Ms. Olson suggested they make a recommendation to the Council ways to engage the community. They could highlight bigger topics such as welcoming new people into the community and making sure the City's policies are equitable for all people and then have ideas listed as ways to follow through on it. It will provide a recommendation on what the City could do and not assume that the HRIEC is going to be involved in every idea. Commissioner Dailey suggested they pick their three priorities and present it in the same way as the Council's priority planning document with a quarterly timeline. Commissioner Carey commented the Commissions three priorities would be the three bullet points on the website and reaching out to businesses was disbanded. Ms. Olson clarified the topic of reaching out to businesses was good, but the format of using a subcommittee structure needs to be different. The Council wants the topic to move forward, but with the discussion happening as a full Commission. Commissioner Dailey suggested the three bullet points be set up in an outcome based format instead of action based. Chair Holub noted changing the bullet points may not make much of a difference. A lot of the goals overlap and it would be hard to differentiate between them. Commissioner Carey noted there is a lot of publicity with Rosedale and it may be a good opportunity to work with them for additional visibility on the additional items they discussed. Commissioner Manke stated the timing is good with Super Bowl coming and it would be a great opportunity for additional visibility. The Commission agreed they have a good start to the timeline and Commissioner Manke will bring back proposals for additional items to the December meeting for further discussion.
