ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES FOR May1, 20186:30pm PRESENT: Baggenstoss, Bole, Gelbach, Heikkila, Hoag, Newby, , Quick, Stoner, Warzecha ABSENT: STAFF: Brokke, Christensen, Taylor 1) INTRODUCTIONS 2) ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT No public in attendance. 3) APPROVAL OF MINUTES April 3, 2018 MEETING Commissioner Gelbach moved to approve the April 3, 2018 meeting minutes. Commissioner Hoag seconds. Motion passed unanimously. 4) LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES GUIDANT JOHN ROSE MINNESOTA OVAL Staff provided a background summary on the state funded dollars used to build and maintain the Guidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL. In 1992, 1.9 million dollars was provided from the State of Minnesota to help build the OVAL facility. In addition, funding was provided from the State of Minnesota in 2006 and 2008 totaling 1.1 million dollars for Guidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL Capital Improvements. The bonding request will occur during the 2020 Legislative Session. During and prior to the session, help will be needed from everyone to communicate the need. Commissioner involvement is encouraged as they are comfortable and willing. Staff will make Commissioners aware of information as it is available. Staff provided an overview of the previous projects that were completed with bonding dollars. The City has hired an engineer to assess condition and needs to potentially include in the 2020 request. In addition, user groups will provide information on items they would like included to help bring Commissioner Newby asked what the strategy is to communicate need to targeted legislators. Staff confirmed that work will be necessary with our local legislators, user groups and the Capital Bonding Committee in addition to meeting with the Governor. Commissioner Gelbach asked if they have scheduled meetings with legislators or if they just show up. Staff confirmed that both approaches were utilized.
