<br /> ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES FOR <br />May1, 20186:30pm <br /> <br />PRESENT: Baggenstoss, Bole, Gelbach, Heikkila, Hoag, Newby, , <br />Quick, Stoner, Warzecha <br />ABSENT: <br />STAFF: Brokke, Christensen, Taylor <br />1) INTRODUCTIONS <br />2) ROLL CALL/PUBLIC COMMENT <br />No public in attendance. <br />3) APPROVAL OF MINUTES April 3, 2018 MEETING <br />Commissioner Gelbach moved to approve the April 3, 2018 meeting minutes. Commissioner <br />Hoag seconds. Motion passed unanimously. <br />4) LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES GUIDANT JOHN ROSE MINNESOTA OVAL <br />Staff provided a background summary on the state funded dollars used to build and maintain <br />the Guidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL. In 1992, 1.9 million dollars was provided from the <br />State of Minnesota to help build the OVAL facility. In addition, funding was provided from <br />the State of Minnesota in 2006 and 2008 totaling 1.1 million dollars for Guidant John Rose <br />Minnesota OVAL Capital Improvements. <br />The bonding request will occur during the 2020 Legislative Session. During and prior to the <br />session, help will be needed from everyone to communicate the need. Commissioner <br />involvement is encouraged as they are comfortable and willing. Staff will make <br />Commissioners aware of information as it is available. <br />Staff provided an overview of the previous projects that were completed with bonding <br />dollars. The City has hired an engineer to assess condition and needs to potentially include in <br />the 2020 request. In addition, user groups will provide information on items they would like <br />included to help bring <br />Commissioner Newby asked what the strategy is to communicate need to targeted legislators. <br />Staff confirmed that work will be necessary with our local legislators, user groups and the <br />Capital Bonding Committee in addition to meeting with the Governor. <br />Commissioner Gelbach asked if they have scheduled meetings with legislators or if they just <br />show up. Staff confirmed that both approaches were utilized. <br /> <br />
