Future Economic Outlook <br />The Metropolitan Council estimated 1990 employment in Roseville <br />to be 41,000. This number repreaenta an increase of over 18,000 <br />jobs since 1970. Such eteady growth has placed Roseville in the <br />unique situation of having ita' employment base exceed the City's <br />population. Roseville's population is expected to remain steady <br />at approximately 34,000. <br />The City's active economic development program has established a <br />number of new and growing businesses. Both retailing and light <br />industrial are gaining strength and a number of projects moving <br />forward in 1993 will continue to enhance the future economic <br />viability of Roseville. <br />Ci.ty Ini.tiative8 and F��p*�^ial Hiqhlight8 During 1993 <br />The City provides a full range of municipal services as author- <br />ized by atate statute. This includes general government, public <br />safety, public worka, parks and recreation, water and sewer <br />utilities and community development. within those areas of <br />responsibilities, the City's goals for 1993 were: <br />1. To continue to implement the economic redevelopment of areas <br />in the City which contain obsolete and low value truck <br />terminals or aging commercial facilities. <br />2. To continue tc <br />construction, <br />housing atock. <br />emphasize housing development through new <br />rehabilitation and enhancement of current <br />3. To complete a recreational skating facility necessary to <br />achieve a national and international site status for Olympic- <br />quality speed skating, bandy and in-line skating. <br />The City achieved several of the goals above and below are sum- <br />maries of those results. <br />l. A major medical office building was begun in 1993 which will <br />provide major health care offices and labs in the Rosedale area. <br />The facility was constructed on a blighted commercial site near <br />the intersection of County Road C and Fairview. The City assisted <br />this development with tax increment financing. <br />2. With the assiatance of the City through the uae of tax- <br />increment financing, two major housing developments for senior <br />citizens were constructed. <br />College Propertiea Inc. purchased and began redevelopment of a <br />blighted commercial area near the campus of Northwestern College. <br />This facility will provide housing alternatives for senior citi- <br />zens from independent living to alzheimer's care. This develop- <br />ment added $23 million in construction value to Roseville in <br />1993. <br />3 <br />
