RegularCity Council Meeting <br />Monday, June 18, 2018 <br />Page7 <br />housethisFriday.EffortswerealsomadeontheParkMasterPlan.Ajoint <br />meetingwasheldwiththeRamseyCountyParksandRecreationDepartment,and <br />whatresultedfromthatisajointDiscoverYourParkswillbeheldatLake <br />th <br />McCarrons on July 25. <br />CouncilmemberMcGeheeaskedforfurtherdescriptionoftheoutreachtotheSE <br />Roseville community. <br />ChairOBrienexplainedthattheParksdepartmentknowthatmanyresidentsin <br />theSERosevillecommunityaroundMarionStreetdonotspeakEnglish,so <br />specificoutreachwasmadetothechildren.Thechildrenthenwereableto <br />interpret for the parents, and it was a great success. <br />CommissionerWarzechadiscussedtheemeraldashborersituationintheCityof <br />Roseville.Asoflate2016theentireCityisintheemeraldashborerinfestation <br />(EAB)zone,andtheCityhastakena3-prongedapproach:removal,replacement, <br />treatment.ItisestimatedthatallAshtreesintheCitywillberemovedand <br />replacedatsomepoint.Afterremovalandreplacement,therewillbenoneedfor <br />thetreatmentanymore.Therearetwofundingsourcestoaccomplishthesetasks. <br />TheCityiseitherusingmoneyfromgrantfundsortheCityEABfunds.The <br />grantfundswereatotalof$120,000.TheEABfundswereestablishedin2011 <br />and$106,000remain.Itisforecastedthatanother$20,000willbeneededfor <br />removal,$40,000forreplacementsand$5,000fortreatmentbytheendofthis <br />year.Staffiscurrentlypursuinggrantopportunitiesfortheseactivitiesinthe <br />amount of $30,000. <br />Councilmember Willmus asked about diversifying tree stock. <br />ChairOBrienrespondedtheguidelineshavebeen10%perspecies,butnoware <br />being reduced to 5% per species. <br />MayorRoenotedthisisnotjustaRosevilleissue.HeaskedwhethertheStateis <br />dealing with this. <br />ParksandRecreationDirectorBrokkerespondeditisuptothelocalcommunities <br />tohandlepublictreeissues.TheStateisveryinvolvedineducationandin <br />helping with identification and in granting opportunities as they become available. <br />Mayor Roe commented on the Dutch Elm disease. <br />ParksandRecreationDirectorBrokkerespondedhelivedthroughthatsituationas <br />well,anditwassimilar.TheStatewillparticipateastheycan,butitisajoint <br />effort among everyone. <br />47 <br /> <br />
