Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br /> September 19, 2018 —Draft Minutes <br /> Page 10 of 13 <br /> 403 Djevi and Manke indicated they would connect with the library to see what events the <br /> 404 Library has coming up in January/February/March and come back in October with an <br /> 405 update. <br /> 406 <br /> 407 Vice Chair Beltmann would like to finalize all proclamations in October and also <br /> 408 finalize the pilot programming for the proclamations. Decide which two <br /> 409 proclamations the Commission wants to highlight in 2019. <br /> 410 <br /> 411 c. Follow Up on Demographic Presentation <br /> 412 Chair Beltmann stated that new Commissioners should review the August meeting <br /> 413 agenda item on demographics presentation. The goal of doing the presentation is that <br /> 414 in the Commissions' past couple of meetings there has been discussion and the <br /> 415 Commission has received approval from the City Council and started to move <br /> 416 forward with some review of City engagement efforts in the community. She stated <br /> 417 that includes talking to City staff and having the City Departments do a survey to <br /> 418 evaluate what has been done and where staff sees opportunities for improvement. <br /> 419 This will also involve community outreach. <br /> 420 <br /> 421 Commissioner Peterson stated she broke out the demographic presentation into each <br /> 422 census track. She thought the presentation by Ms. Olson was great and the two <br /> 423 formats can be used together. She noted she included some conclusions in her write <br /> 424 up. <br /> 425 <br /> 426 Vice Chair Beltmann thought this information was really helpful especially when the <br /> 427 Commission starts thinking about outreach she thought this was a good resource and <br /> 428 reference to have. <br /> 429 <br /> 430 Commissioner Djevi asked how the Commission would use all of the information that <br /> 431 has been gathered. He thought the Commission should have further discussion at the <br /> 432 October meeting. <br /> 433 <br /> 434 Commissioner Eck thought it was interesting to look at the context with some of the <br /> 435 historical information. She stated it would be interesting to see how the census <br /> 436 changes over a twenty-year period. <br /> 437 <br /> 438 d. Commissioner Research on Outreach/Engagement <br /> 439 Commissioner Djevi summarized that the document can be used to work with the <br /> 440 Police Department to build Police/Community relationships. The document has a lot <br /> 441 of good information. <br /> 442 <br /> 443 Commissioner Bolinger stated she sent Ms. Olson a couple of different articles. <br /> 444 <br /> 445 Ms. Olson stated she would upload the document to include the PDF document <br /> 446 instead of a PDF portfolio. <br /> 447 <br />
