To:Parks and Recreation Commission <br />From:Lonnie Brokke <br />Date:September 19, 2018 <br />Re:Notes forCommission Meeting on Tuesday,October 2, 2018 <br />1.Introductions <br />2.Public Comment Invited <br />3.Approval of Minutes of the September 4, 2018 Meeting <br />Enclosed isacopy of the minutes of September 4, 2018.Please be prepared to <br />approve/amend. <br />Requested Commission Action:Approve/amend meetingminutesof September 4, <br />2018 <br />4.Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)Update and Discussion <br />This is an opportunity to provideyou with the very latestinformation and have <br />continued discussions onour EAB infestation, avery important topic facing the city. <br />Included in your packet is theProgram and Magnitude Report fromMay 2018.Staff <br />will be prepared to expand on that andwillprovide you with additional details to date <br />andshare future forecasts. <br />This is a moving targetand something that will requireregular updates, discussion, <br />understanding and guidance. <br />Requested Commission Action:Discuss and provide input. <br />5.Natural Resources Stewardship Networkand Discussion <br />As part of the Parks and Recreation Renewal Program,theNatural Resources <br />RestorationProgram(Program)was a high priority.Enclosedis the currenttype, <br />size and location chart of the pursuedcore and non-core projects. Core projects are <br />projects funded with city funds,non-core projects would require grant funds <br />leveraged with the city funds. <br />In 2012, fundingbecame availablethrough a $1.5M city bondwith anintent to <br />leverage grant funds as much as possible. We have received approximately <br />$500,000to date in grant funds. <br />The city hired Stantec, Inc. -Paul Bockenstedt, anecologist to guide and do initial <br />restoration work throughout the park system utilizing their staff and volunteers. <br />Following the initial restoration work, threeyears of maintenancewas included as <br />part of theircontract. <br />After the three years of maintenance was completeand the invasive plants were <br />undercontrol, the parkswould beback with the city to maintain.
