Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br />November 14, 2018 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 9 of 10 <br /> <br />358 Chair Beltmann thought some things to think about are missing groups: renters, <br />359 POC, new Americans, under 35, young families (generally connect with schools), low <br />360 income seniors, low income residents. <br />361 <br />362 Ms. Olson encouragedthe Commission to include in best practices the tracking of <br />363 engagement. Understanding who, when, how, or just collecting the data to find out if <br />364 the City is being effective. <br />365 <br />366 Chair Beltmann thought the Commission should split the work into three buckets to <br />367 start with. She stated she will summarize survey results and begin to draft best <br />368 practices documentand include high level demographic overview. <br />369 <br />370 Commissioner Djevi and Commissioner Eck indicated they will research <br />371 groups/contacts, missing demographics and historically underrepresentedgroups. <br />372 <br />373 ChairBeltmann thought another thing the Commission could be looking at is whether <br />374 there are best practices/tactics to engage those different groups and to research what <br />375 other communities have done. <br />376 <br />377 Commissioner Bolinger stated she would work on researching what other <br />378 communities’best practices are. <br />379 <br />380 Commissioner Djevi andCommissioner Eck indicated they would help <br />381 Commissioner Bolinger on best practices. <br />382 <br />383 Chair Beltmann indicated the Commission will hold off for now on what are follow <br />384 up questions for city departments. She indicated she will email out a summary of <br />385 next steps and send out to group <br />386 <br />387 Chair Beltmann thought the Commission could bring back a statusupdate atthe <br />388 December meeting. <br />389 <br />390 e. Discuss Demographic Data <br />391 Ms. Olson summarized that after the presentation on demographic data at the August <br />392 Commission meeting, it was requested that time be set aside at a future meeting to <br />393 discuss how to utilize this information as it pertains to the scope of the work of the <br />394 Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission. <br />395 <br />396 Commissioner Peterson thought using the demographic data as the primer when <br />397 looking at best practices to set the field. <br />398 <br />399 f. 2019 Calendar <br />400 Ms. Olson reviewed the 2019 Commission Meeting Schedule. <br />401 <br /> <br />
