Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br />December 19, 2018 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 13of 14 <br />539 <br />540 Vice Chair Peterson stated this has been discussed in previous years on whether to <br />541 include that or not. She did not know if Commissioners felt strongly for or against <br />542 that item. <br />543 <br />544 Commissioner Hansel stated she liked leaving the grammar and spelling criteria in <br />545 even though there could be EL kids, but the essay portion is more heavily weighted. <br />546 If the essay as a whole is good, it could be put through, but she did like having the <br />547 grammar and spelling as a part of the criteria. <br />548 <br />549 Commissioner Djevi agreed and if there are two comparable essays this could be used <br />550 as a way of putting one essay on top of the other one. <br />551 <br />552 The Commission agreed and was fine with the changes to the rubric. <br />553 <br />554 Ms. Olson reviewed the essay timeline with the Commission. <br />555 <br />556 d. 2019 Work Plan <br />557 The Commission postponed this item until the January 2019 Commission meeting. <br />558 <br />559 e. 2019 Calendar <br />560 Assistant City Manager Rebecca Olson reviewed the 2019 calendar with the <br />561 Commission. <br />562 <br />563 CommissionerMacomber moved and Commissioner Eck seconded a motion to <br />564 approve the 2019 calendar as presented. Motion passed unanimously. <br />565 <br />566 f. Appoint Member to the Ethics Commission <br />567 Assistant City Manager Rebecca Olson stated the Ethics Commission includes a <br />568 representative from each of the standing commissionsand meets on an as needed <br />569 basis and one annual meeting. <br />570 <br />571 Commissioner Macomber asked what the nature of the committee is. <br />572 <br />573 Ms. Olson reviewed the purpose of the Ethics Commission. <br />574 <br />575 Commissioner Macomber indicated she would be willing to serve on the Ethics <br />576 Commission. <br />577 <br />578 CommissionerDjevi moved and Commissioner Eck seconded a motion to appoint <br />579 Commissioner Macomber to the Ethics Commission. Motion passed unanimously. <br />580 <br />581 g. Youth Commissioner Appointment Timeline <br />582 Vice Chair Peterson stated the two Youth Commissioners are Seniors and will be <br />583 leaving so the Commission will need to appoint two new Youth Commissioners.
