Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission Minutes <br />December 19, 2018 – Draft Minutes <br />Page 6of 14 <br />th <br />226 Vice Chair Peterson stated on January 8 at 6:30 there will be a Human Trafficking <br />th <br />227 Ask Series by Do Good Roseville and Sunday, January 13 there will also be an <br />228 event at the library at 2:00p.m. highlighting human trafficking by TEDTalk. <br />229 <br />th <br />230 Ms. Olson indicated information will be on the City website for the event on the 17. <br />231 <br />232 Commissioner Bolinger thanked Vice Chair Peterson for all of her hard work with the <br />233 upcoming events. <br />234 <br />235 Ms. Olson stated it would be important to have Commission representation at these <br />236 events as well. <br />237 <br />238 Commissioner Djevi stated he will be meeting with three people of Hispanic descent <br />th <br />239 on January 11 regarding the Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation and will bring <br />240 back information to the Commission. <br />241 <br />242 Commissioner Eck wondered if there were any plans in the future to do more <br />243 highlighting of proclamations. <br />244 <br />245 Vice Chair Peterson stated the Commission is planning to pilot Hispanic Heritage <br />246 Month in September/October for this year and then the plan was to highlight one or <br />247 two different proclamations each year. <br />248 <br />249 b. Engagement Project Discussion <br />250 Assistant City Manager Olson provided a recap on the November Engagement <br />251 Project discussion. <br />252 <br />253 Ms. Olson stated Commissioner Beltmann was working on summarizing the survey <br />254 results and drafting the beginning of best practice document so that may need to be <br />255 pushed out to the next Commission meeting. <br />256 <br />257 Commissioner Eck stated she revisited the links that were in the packet regarding <br />258 Item three and printed out some examples of the kinds of information there. She <br />259 stated she found an engagement guide that came from the lens of public health. She <br />260 noted public health mission is trying to reach populations that are marginalized in the <br />261 community. <br />262 <br />263 Ms. Olson stated she would upload the engagement guide to the agenda packet. <br />264 <br />265 Commissioner Eck stated the guide talks about the infrastructure that is put in place <br />266 before generating questions and finding contacts. She thought that digging a little <br />267 deeper into the overall purpose, goals and objectives of this work before moving into <br />268 the content. Looking at the bigger picture and why the Commission is doing this <br />269 from a research standpoint. She stated she also found a booklet titled “Engaging <br />270 Under-represented Populations Prepared for the City of North St. Paul”. She noted it <br /> <br />
