Regular City Council Meeting <br /> Monday,January 7, 2019 <br /> Page 16 <br /> Fire Chief O'Neill stated in the packet there was the results of the surveys the Fire <br /> Department was able to get. He asked if there were any questions or feedback re- <br /> garding the outreach the Fire Department has been able to do so far. <br /> Councilmember Laliberte appreciated the Fire Department taking the time to go <br /> out and explain what is coming to the community so the Council did not have to <br /> start that process. <br /> Councilmember Groff asked how the events were promoted. <br /> Fire Chief O'Neill stated the Fire Department had an article in the Roseville Re- <br /> view, which was part of the biggest piece as well as the City's website and the <br /> Fire Department's website. The Fire Department also used social media to reach <br /> out to the community. <br /> Councilmember Groff asked if anything was done in any other language besides <br /> English. <br /> Fire Chief O'Neill stated it was not. It was one of the pieces where the Fire De- <br /> partment met with the Human Rights, Inclusion, and Engagement Commission <br /> (HRIEC) early on and asked them for guidance. At that point, it was one of the <br /> things the HRIEC mentioned but was not something the Fire Department was <br /> prepared to do time wise and if there was a longer period of time it would be <br /> something that could be done. He noted in some communities the Fire Depart- <br /> ment had the children communicate with the adults for them which worked out <br /> really well. <br /> Councilmember Etten asked if the Fire Department was able to utilize NextDoor. <br /> Fire Chief O'Neill indicated the Fire Department was not able to use NextDoor <br /> and did not know if it was a permitted use or no. <br /> Councilmember Etten indicated it was a permitted. <br /> Assistant Fire Chief Brosnahan listed other cities in the Twin Cities that have <br /> transitioned to full-time employees. <br /> Councilmember Laliberte asked the Fire Chief to comment on the training obsta- <br /> cles for the people that do not have the training. <br /> Fire Chief O'Neill stated part-time employees and volunteer employees do not <br /> have the training needed and do not want to go through the extensive training for <br /> little or no pay. He noted there is a significant turnover rate for part time employ- <br /> ees which leads to continued costs related to recruitment and training of new per- <br />
