Regular City Council Meeting
Monday,January 7, 2019
Page 20
national level to solve these problems. Lastly, on a daily basis, Roseville Fire
Fighters are forced to either delay response or not respond to emergency calls in
the community due to lack of available resources. This puts the community in
jeopardy. He was confident that as a Council that each one understands the situa-
tion that the Fire Department currently faces.
Mr. Sjostrom provided the Council with a preliminary draft report of a GIS Emer-
gency Services Response Capabilities Analysis that is being conducted by the In-
ternational Association of Fire Fighters. He also provided the Council a research
article recently published with the focus of the article showing the tangible in dol-
lars' worth of each Fire Fighter on duty.
Mr. Sjostrom thanked each Councilmember for taking this item seriously.
Ms.Nancy O'Brien, 2103 Cohansey Boulevard
Ms. O'Brien stated she was another voice in support of Phase II. She felt Phase I
has been a huge success. She thought Phase II needed to be funded even if it will
be taxpayer funded.
Ms. Lisa Palkowitsch, 1393 Eldridge Avenue West
Ms. Palkowitsch stated she approved moving forward with this item as well. She
stated many good points were brought up but one of things that was not talked
about was as a citizen, she views Roseville as an employer, and she did not want
the employees being burned out and quitting and paying for the turn over. The
City also has to look at the employees as people and the mental and emotional
stress the Fire Fighters face every day. As an employer the City needs to consider
that and support the Fire Fighters in any way possible.
Mr. Sam Baker, 2769 Arona Street
Mr. Sam Baker stated he is a Fire Fighter and has been in the City for fourteen
years as a Fire Fighter. He stated when he started there were approximately three
calls a day with five Fire Fighters and today there are thirteen to fifteen calls a day
with the same number of Fire Fighters. He stated his responsibilities are Fire In-
spector, Fire Investigator, and also to help with the preplan for new buildings. He
is not going to fires or medical incidents or accidents. He is helping Roseville
grow and the Fire Fighters do a lot of stuff. He stated he loves his job and thinks
$3.00 a month for additional Fire Fighters is worth a tax increase.
Mayor Roe thanked the public for their input.
Recess
Mayor Roe recessed the meeting at approximately 8:55 p.m., and reconvened at approximately
9:01 p.m.
