Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, February 11, 2019
Page 5
Mayor Roe reviewed the action the City Council is being asked to consider which
includes the abatement of the vehicle issues.
Councilmember Willmus stated he would be willing to extend this until the mid-
dle of April which will give the resident nine weeks to clean up the property.
Councilmember Laliberte did not disagree but thought with the weather being the
way it has been, it has created a challenge. She thought as spring arrives there
will be a wet, sloppy mess to deal with which will also be a challenge. She asked
Councilmember Willmus if he would be amenable to May 1St
Councilmember Willmus indicated he was fine with that date.
Laliberte moved, Willmus seconded, abatement of the public nuisance violations
at 2455 Dale Street by contracting with a towing company for the removal of the
unlicensed, inoperable vehicles and with an additional contractor to remove the
junk and debris stored outside the property, and to stay enforcement of approved
abatement until May 1, 2019.
Council Discussion
Councilmember Laliberte asked staff to follow up with the resident to let him
know if there is a process to apply for a variance because of the other issue with
the existing pavement and property lines.
Mayor Roe thought the variance would deal with vehicles parking close to the
property line. He noted there is also a variance process that deals with land use
and he would leave it to staff to handle that.
Councilmember Willmus stated he understood the issues in dealing with the
weather, but he also thought it was upon the City Council to uphold the standards
that are in place and to make sure the standards are applied fairly across the
boards. He would certainly not look at going beyond May 1 St
Councilmember Groff supported the motion.
Mayor Roe agreed and thought the property owner had a very nice yard. He stat-
ed the purpose of these requirements in the Code is to make sure that residential
properties in the community are not being used to store vehicles that are inopera-
ble and may not be considered by everyone to be an eyesore but enough people in
the community feel that way to have it put in the City Code. The City is trying to
enforce the City Code evenly and fairly across the board to everyone and are not
trying to harass anyone.
