City of Roseville <br />Title:HRIEC Youth Commissioner <br />Length of Appointment:1 year <br />Appointment Requirements:Must be enrolled in high school and under the age of 18 and be a <br />resident of the city of Roseville. <br />Description:As a non-voting member of the Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Commission, <br />the Youth Commissioner works in partnership with the other members of the commission and staff <br />liaison. The role is to ensure that young people are involved and engaged in helping shape decisions that <br />affect them and to empower them to share their ideas and have a meaningful voice in planning, <br />implementing and reviewing programs and opportunities within their community. <br />Responsibilities:Attend monthly meetings and contribute to the discussion as a non-voting member, <br />work with the student community at Roseville Area High school and in Roseville, and perform high <br />school outreach functions (previous functions included summer book reads, human rights club, essay <br />contests). <br />Examples of Tasks <br />Supporting Youth Engagement <br />ththth <br />Participating in developing topics for the annual Essay Contest for 6, 7, and 8 graders, <br />reviewing essay entries and choosing top winners. <br />Engaging with youth and bringing new perspectives to the commission. <br />Developing Human Rights, Inclusion and Engagement Topics for Youth <br />Previous youth commissioners have worked within their local high schools on Human Rights <br />topics and projects as well as managed a summer book read. <br />Creating Connections within the Community <br />Working with other commissioners and staff to develop best practices for engagement and <br />outreach to communities of color. <br />Serving as a link and resource between the city and local high schools. <br />Skills Required: <br />Desireand willingness to share thoughts and ideas as they relate to youth in the community <br />Ability to work and engage with young people <br />Willingness to participate in monthly meetings <br />Ability to think creatively <br />Ability to work on projects outside of monthly meetings <br />Estimate Time Commitment: <br />Meetings are held monthly on the third Wednesday of the month at City Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. <br />Typical meeting length is 2-3 hours. Depending upon youth commissioners focus area, will determine <br /> <br />
