REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: October 7, 2019 <br /> Item No.: 9.f <br /> <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br /> <br />Item Description: Designate Legal Newspaperfor the remainder of 2019 <br /> <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 Minnesota Statute 412.831 requires cities to designate a legal newspaper annually for publication of <br />3 ordinances and other notices. On January 7, 2019 the council designated the Roseville Review as the <br />th <br />4 city’s legal newspaper. On September 30the city was informed that Lillie News has closed, the final <br />nd <br />5 publication was October 2. Bids will be solicited later in the year for the 2020 Legal Newspaper. <br />6 <br />7 Staff requested quotes from the Pioneer Press and Star Tribune. Rates are as follows: <br />8 <br />9 Pioneer Press $6.00 per column inch for a one-time publication/ $5.50 per column inch for each <br />10 additional publication. <br />11 <br />12 Star Tribune $1.31 per line <br />13 <br />14 From staff analysis, the Pioneer Press is more cost effective than the Star Tribune. It should be noted <br />15 that the Pioneer Press costs are only slightly higher than the costs the City incurred with the Roseville <br />16 Review. <br />17 F INANCIAL I MPLICATIONS <br />18 The 2019 budget includes funds for legal notices.The rates for publishing with either of the papers is <br />19 greater than the Roseville Review. <br />20 <br />21 S TAFF R ECOMMENDATION <br />22 Motion to designate the Pioneer Pressas the legal newspaper for the City of Roseville for the remainder <br />23 of 2019. <br />24 R EQUESTED C OUNCIL A CTION <br />25 Motion to designate the Pioneer Press as the legal newspaper for the City of Rosevillefor the remainder <br />26 of 2019. <br />27 <br />Prepared b y:Katie Bruno, Deputy City Clerk <br />Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br />
