Public Comment
Mayor Roe called for public comment by members of the audience on any non-agenda
items.
Ms. Sherry Hood, President of League of Women Voters of the Roseville Area
Ms. Hood indicated she was at the meeting because of recent election results from the
City of St. Paul. The citizens of St. Paul, on Tuesday, November 5th, overwhelmingly
voted for organized trash hauling in their city. She brings this to the Council's attention
because the majority of the citizens of St. Paul support the logic behind this concept but
because the citizens want to support efforts to try to halt the progression of the crisis of
this lifetime, especially of our children and grandchildren, which is climate change. Air
pollution that is caused by many factors but especially fossil fuels which includes gas sta-
tion and natural gas for heating homes. Thirty-five years ago, in 1985 the Roseville
League of Women Voters, conducted a thorough study on organized trash hauling in Ro-
seville. Since 1985 Little Canada and Maplewood have instituted organized trash haul-
ing. Today the prices for each household in Little Canada is for a thirty-gallon container
costs $9.27 per month and a sixty-gallon container costs $11.51 per month. The City of
Maplewood has signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with one hauler after a com-
petitive bidding process. The citizens of Maplewood have saved close to $1.6 million
dollars per year since the first contract.
Ms. Hood explained on the subject of neighboring cities around Roseville, St. Anthony
signed a contract in 2014 and has two haulers, each covering a part of the city. She indi-
cated their reasons for supporting organized trash collection is most likely cheaper for
everyone than what is currently paid and there is no need to shop for a hauler. One gar-
bage truck's impact on Roseville's streets is equal to one thousand cars. Six to eight,
