Regular City Council Meeting
Monday, December 2, 2019
Page 2
which is typical in Roseville, went down the street in one day. This greatly increases the
impact of a thousand cars per day and shortens the timeline for street repair. The fuel us-
age per trash hauler would be greatly reduced if not needing to cover the whole city. The
MPCA (Minnesota Pollution Control Agency) in 2009 shows estimates for fuel reduction
for five cities in Minnesota if organized collection is implemented. Fuel usage could be
reduced by approximately forty percent, which is quite a significant amount. Carbon Di-
oxide emissions connected with multiple trips by several haulers would be greatly re-
duced contributing to the cities carbon reduction goals, which is part of the 2040 Com-
prehensive Plan.
Ms. Hood stated Ramsey County now requires all trash collected to go the facility in
Newport where it is turned into pellets for fuel. She thought it would be great to contract
for organized trash hauling and in doing so bring significant environmental benefits for
the city and county and as the same time cut future costs for street repair and trash collec-
tion for the citizens of Roseville.
5.
