REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Date: 2/10/2020
Item No.:
Department Approval City Manager Approval
Item Description: Accept General Donations to the City of Roseville Parks and Recreation
1 B ACKGROUND
2 Over the years the City of Roseville has received many donations from citizens, program participants and
3 affiliated groups. These gifts have been in the form of both materials and monies. When staff is notified of
4 a potential donation, they first make a determination of whether to recommend acceptance based on the
5 suitability of the item for the city. An acceptance request is then forwarded to the City Council.
6
7 These two proposed donations are substantial, a bit unusual and are suggested for the City Council to accept
8 and recognize with the understanding thatthere will be additional steps in the process to determine final
9 result.
10
11 The donations are from two long standing, highly recognized Roseville Parks and Recreation Foundations.
12 Specifically, they are the Friends of Roseville Parks (FOR Parks) for a $500,000 value and the Roseville
13 Central Park Foundation for a $150,000 value. The total value of the donations combined is $650,000.
14
15 Recently the Friends of Roseville Parks (FOR Parks) and the Roseville Central Park Foundation have
16 expressed interest in providing a substantial project donation over the next couple of years. This benefactor is interested in providing this contribution with the understanding that the
24 final project will be “premier project” and use “high quality “equipment and materials. This
25 benefactorwill be kept informedin the beginning and along the way on how their funding is being
26 invested. The financial contribution will be made to FOR Parks and be kept in a special restricted
27 fund. In the end, FOR Parks will contribute the final project to the City for ongoing maintenance.
28
29 While the final project is unknown and is evolving at this time, the project idea is to enhance the
30 existing Roseville Central Park playgrounds by installing“fully accessible” permanent safety
31 surface throughout the entire play area as well as additional accessible/senior/adult/all exercise play
32 pieces as appropriate and fits. The playground containers are not anticipated to be substantially
Page 1 of 4
18
