<br />CITY OF ROSEVILLE JOB DESCRIPTION <br />Job Description Title: Officer FLSA Status: Non Exempt / Union <br />Department/Division: Police Department Position Status: Regular Full –Time <br />Accountable To: Police Sergeant Salary Grade:Union Step <br />Revision Date: 11-02, 1-12, 10-17, 3-18, <br />Prepared By: Rebecca Olson <br />10-19 <br />Job Summary: <br />The key responsibilities of a Police Officer are to enforce State and Federal laws and City <br />ordinances; conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of incidents, traffic accidents and <br />crimes; protect life and property; prevent crime; promote community relations; provide the highest <br />level of service to residents and visitors; and to perform all duties within the guidelines, policies, <br />procedures, rules, and regulations set forth by the Department. <br /> <br />Scope of Responsibility: <br /> <br />The Police Officerworks independently, with limited supervision and direction, under the assigned <br />Sergeantand has the primary responsibility to respond to callsfor law enforcement. This position <br />functions as the City’s first line of contact with the public regarding Police calls for service.The <br />Officer position exercises considerable knowledge of state and federally laws and prescribed <br />Policing standards and procedures requiring analysis, critical troubleshooting; the use of established <br />practical and sound judgment, and is responsible for all related report writing. <br /> <br />This position frequently interacts within the department and the community to present detailed or <br />technical information, gather input and feedback, provide explanations or responses, and performs <br />advanced troubleshooting or analysis using judgment to select from multiple known alternatives. <br />Communication in person, on the phone and across the internet requires the highest degree of tact, <br />courtesy, and sound judgment that is necessary to serve the public. Relationships and successes <br />affecting individual customers and public reputationare affected by this position. <br /> <br />The Police Officerwill recommend strategies, standards, and procedures consistent with <br />organizational and department priorities. This position sets precedent within limits and administers <br />operating rules and procedures under management guidance.
