<br />Adjusts routine tour of duty to meet unexpected needs of the Department. <br />Maintaining Public Order: Maintains public order by intervening to stop ongoing or <br />potential violence and by mediating disputes. <br /> Crime Prevention: Supports and promotes crime prevention in contacts with the public; <br />gathers as much detailed information in reports as possible so as to maintain accurate and <br />detailed statistics. <br /> Patrol and Protective Services: Patrols assigned areas observing and making contact with <br />all segments of the population. Maintains familiarity with streets, businesses, persons, <br />vehicles and hazards. Investigates circumstances that appear out of the ordinary to prevent <br />harm to persons and damage or loss of property. Use of selective and saturation patrol for <br />trouble spots and high crime activity. Enforces traffic laws. <br /> Investigations: Conducts investigations, processes evidence and takes an active part in <br />bringing the case to a conclusion. Processes the scenes of crimes and accidents so evidence is <br />located, identified, and preserved. Interviews witnesses and suspects within legal parameters <br />to obtain all information necessary to bring the case to conclusion. Periodically contacts and <br />updates complainant regarding disposition of the complaint. Ensures property and evidence is <br />returned to its rightful owner upon final disposition of the case. <br /> Testify in court: Able to provide credible testimony in criminal and civil courts. <br /> <br />2. Community Outreach & Education: <br /> Performs crime prevention activities including public safety education within the City. <br /> Serves as a representative of the City, performing duties in a courteous and professional <br />manner that conveys a positive image of city government and that fosters cooperation and <br />support with peers, superiors, citizens and other agencies. <br /> Peaceful Assembly: Protects the rights of free speech and peaceful assembly and ensures <br />orderly flow and access of traffic. <br /> Community Relations: Seeks to gain support and cooperation with the police function; <br />protects a professional image of the department and profession; participates in and plans <br />crime prevention and community safety programs; gives prompt and courteous service to <br />residents and visitors; speaks to interested groups about police work and related subjects; <br />assists in demonstrations of police equipment and/or methods for interested groups; <br />cooperates with ride-along program; cultivates professional relationships with other City <br />departments, community residents and business persons, and outside agencies. <br /> <br />3. Mentoring: <br /> Mentors and provides limited training and direction to less experienced police personnel. <br />May take a limited leadership role during calls for service, as assigned by a supervisor. <br /> Keeps supervisor advised of emergency call response and investigative developments. <br /> Preforms the duties of instructor for assigned training. <br /> <br />4. Administrative & Recordkeeping: <br /> Administers or participates in projects and administrative duties assigned.
