The code official shall carry proper identification when <br />179 inspecting structures or premises in the performance of duties under thiscode. <br />180 6. Notices and orders. The code official shall issue all necessary notices or orders to <br />181 ensure compliance with this code. <br />182 7. Department records. The code official shall keep official records of all business and <br />183 activities of the department specified in the provisions of this code. Such records shall <br />184 be retained in the official records as long as the building or structure to which such <br />185 records relate remains in existence, unless otherwise provided for by otherregulations <br />186 for the period required for retention of public records. <br />187 8. Coordination of inspections. Whenever in the enforcement of this code or another code <br />188 or ordinance, the responsibility of more than one code official of the jurisdiction is <br />189 involved, it shall be the duty of the code officials involved to coordinate their inspections <br />190 and administrative orders as fully as practicable so that the owners and occupants of the <br />191 structure shall not be subjected to visits by numerous inspectors or multiple or conflicting <br />192 orders. Whenever an inspector from any agency or department observes an apparent or <br />193 actual violation of some provision of some law, ordinance or code not within the <br />194 inspector’s authority to enforce, the inspector shall report the findings to the code official <br />195 having jurisdiction. <br />196 E. Approval <br />197 1. Modifications. Whenever there are practical difficulties involved in carrying out the <br />198 provisions of this code, the code official shall have the authority to grant modifications <br />199 for individual cases, upon application of the owner or owner's authorized agent, provided <br />200 thatthe code official shall first find that special individual reason makes the strict letter of <br />201 this code impractical and the modification is in compliance with the intent and purpose of <br />202 this code and that such modification does not lessen health, life and fire safety <br />203 requirements. The details of action granting modifications shall be recorded and entered <br />204 in the department files. <br />205 2. Alternative materials, methods design and methods of construction and equipment. <br />206 The provisions of this code are not intended to prevent the installation of any material or <br />207 to prohibit any design or method of construction not specifically prescribed by this code, <br />208 provided that any such alternative has been approved. An alternative material, designor <br />209 method of construction shall be approved where the code official finds that the proposed <br />210 design is satisfactory and complies with the intent of the provisions of this code, and that <br />211 the material, method or work offered is, for the purpose intended, not less than at least the <br />212 equivalent of that prescribed in this code in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, <br />213 durability and safety.Where the alternative material, design or method of construction is <br />214 not approved, the code official shall respond in writing, stating the reasons why the <br />215 alternative was not approved. <br />216 3. Required testing. Whenever there is insufficient evidence of compliance with the <br />217 provisions of this code, or evidence that a material or method does not conform to the <br />218 requirements of this code, or in order to substantiate claims for alternative materials or <br />219 methods, the code official shall have the authority to require tests to be made as evidence <br />220 of compliance at no expense to the jurisdiction. <br />221 a. Test methods. Test methods shall be as specified in this code or by other recognized <br />222 test standards.
