ATTACHMENT C <br />1088 3. Cooking facilities. Unless approved through the certificate of occupancy, cooking shall <br />1089 not be permitted in any rooming unit or dormitory unit, and a cooking facility or <br />1090 appliance shall not be permitted to be present in a rooming unit or dormitory unit. <br />1091 Exceptions: <br />1092 a. Where specifically approved in writing by the code official. <br />1093 b.Devices including, but not limited to, coffee pots and microwave ovens shall not be <br />1094 considered cooking appliances. <br />1095 4. Process ventilation. Where injurious, toxic, irritating or noxious fumes, gases, dusts or <br />1096 mists are generated, a local exhaust ventilation system shall be provided to remove the <br />1097 contaminating agent at the source. Air shall be exhausted to the exterior and not be re- <br />1098 circulated to any space. <br />1099 5. Clothes dryer exhaust. Clothes dryer exhaust systems shall be independent of all <br />1100 other systems and shall be exhausted in accordance with the manufacturer’s <br />1101 instructions. <br />1102 D. Occupancy Limitations <br />1103 1.Privacy.Dwelling units, hotel units, housekeeping units, rooming units and dormitory <br />1104 units shall be arranged to provide privacy and be separate from other adjoiningspaces. <br />1105 2. Minimum room widths.A habitable room, other than a kitchen, shall not be less than <br />1106 7 feet (2134 mm) in any plan dimension. Kitchens shall have a clear passageway of not <br />1107 less than 3 feet (914 mm) between counterfronts and appliances or counterfronts and <br />1108 walls. <br />1109 3. Minimum ceiling heights. Habitable spaces, hallways, corridors, laundry areas, <br />1110 bathrooms, toilet rooms and habitable basement areas shall have a clear ceiling height of <br />1111 not less than 7 feet (2134 mm). <br />1112 Exceptions: <br />1113 a. 1. In one-and two-family dwellings, beams or girders spaced not less than 4 <br />1114 feet (1219 mm) on center and projecting not more than 6 inches (152 mm) <br />1115 below the required ceiling height. <br />1116 b. 2. Basement rooms in one-and two-family dwellings occupied exclusively for <br />1117 laundry, study or recreation purposes, having a ceiling height of not less than 6 <br />1118 feet 8 inches (2033 mm) with not less than 6 feet 4 inches (1932 mm) of clear <br />1119 height under beams, girders, ducts and similarobstructions. <br />1120 c. 3. Rooms occupied exclusively for sleeping, study or similar purposes and <br />1121 having a sloped ceiling over all or part of the room, with a clear ceiling height of <br />1122 at least 7 feet (2134 mm) over not less than one-third of the required minimum <br />1123 floor area. In calculating the floor area of such rooms, only those portions of the <br />1124 floor area with a clear ceiling height of 5 feet (1524 mm) or more shall be <br />1125 included. <br />1126 4. Bedroom Sleeping and livingroom requirements.Every bedroom sleeping and <br />1127 living room shall comply with the requirements of Sections 906.06.D.4.a. through <br />1128 906.06.D.4.e. <br />1129 a. Area for sleeping purposes Room area. Every bedroomsleeping roomoccupied by <br />1130 one person shall contain at least not less than 70 square feet (6.5 m2) of floor area, <br />1131 and every bedroomsleeping room occupied by more than one person shall <br />1132 contain at leastnot less than 50 square feet (4.6 m2)of floor area for each occupant <br />1133 thereof.
