BUILDING, RESIDENTIAL: A building which is arranged, designed, used or intended to be used for 211 <br />residential occupancy by one or more families or lodgers, and which includes, but is not limited to, the 212 <br />following types multiple-family dwelling, single-family attached dwellings, single-family detached 213 <br />dwellings, and two-family detached dwellings. 214 <br />BUILDING COMPLEX: A group of two or more buildings, planned or developed in a joint manner with 215 <br />shared parking facilities, regardless of whether such buildings or uses are located on the same lot or 216 <br />parcel. 217 <br />BUILDING HEIGHT: The vertical dimension measured from the average elevation of the approved grade 218 <br />at the front of the building to the highest point of the roof in the case of a flat roof, to the deck line of a 219 <br />mansard roof, and to the midpoint of the ridge of a gable, hip, or gambrel roof. (For purposes of this 220 <br />definition, the average height shall be calculated by using the highest ridge and its attendant eave. The 221 <br />eave point used shall be where the roof line crosses the side wall.) In the case of alterations, additions or 222 <br />replacement of existing buildings, height shall be measured from the natural grade prior to construction. 223 <br />BUILDING MATERIALS SALES: An establishment that sells or rents building supplies, construction 224 <br />equipment, or home decorating fixtures and accessories. This term does not include a lumberyard or home 225 <br />improvement center. 226 <br />C. 227 <br />CALIPER INCH: The standard of each tree trunk measurement for replacement or landscaping trees. The 228 <br />caliper inch measurement of the trunk shall be taken at six (6) inches above the ground for trees up to and 229 <br />including four (4) inch caliper size, and twelve (12) inches above the ground for trees larger than four (4) 230 <br />inch caliper. 231 <br />CANOPY: A roof-like structure projecting from the building over an entrance or window that provides 232 <br />weather protection for the entry or window and, perhaps, the immediately adjacent area. Canopies shall be 233 <br />considered part of the wall area for the purpose of allocation of signage. 234 <br />CANOPY, AUXILIARY: A roof-like structure projecting over, including but not limited to, fuel pump 235 <br />islands, drive-through banking, or any canopy with a drive-through lane. An auxiliary canopy provides 236 <br />weather protection for more than the building entrance or windows. Auxiliary canopies may be attached 237 <br />or detached from the principal building. For sign purposes auxiliary canopies shall be considered a 238 <br />separate structure. 239 <br />CAR WASH: An establishment where washing, drying, polishing, or vacuuming of an automobile or 240 <br />other motor vehicle is done by service personnel, the driver, or by automated machinery. 241 <br />CATERING ESTABLISHMENT: A business that prepares food and beverages to be delivered off 242 <br />premises for consumption at a social, business, or civic function and may also provide service at the 243 <br />function. 244 <br />CEMETERY: An area used for the burial or entombment of one or more deceased persons, including 245 <br />graveyards, mausoleums, and columbaria. 246 <br />CITY: The word “City” shall mean the City of Roseville, Minnesota 247 <br />CLINIC, MEDICAL, DENTAL, OR OPTICAL: A building in which a group of physicians, dentists, or 248 <br />other health care professionals are associated for the purpose of carrying on their professions.
