37 As part of this document, the commission is also recommending that the City Council, all City <br />38 Commissions, and key staff complete the Community Engagement Assessment with further details <br />39 to be determined by staff. <br />40 <br />41 P OLICY O BJECTIVE <br />42 One of the goals of the Strategic Communications Plan is to encourage and inspire community <br />43 participation by implementing communication tools that support city goals and priorities. One of the <br />44 city’s strategic priorities is Inclusive Community and Governance. <br />45 <br />46 R ACIAL E QUITY C ONSIDERATIONS <br />47 <br />48 Civic engagement should include strategies to make sure that all voices in a community are heard as <br />49 part of inclusive decision-making. These strategies can increase the extent to which residents are <br />50 able to influence or control decisions that affect their lives.Traditional engagement activities and <br />51 communication channels have historically not reached all residents, and in particular specific <br />52 segments of our population, including people of color. <br />53 <br />54 B UDGET I MPLICATIONS <br />55 <br />56 At this time there are no budgetary impacts. <br />57 <br />58 S TAFF R ECOMMENDATION <br />59 <br />60 Receive the best practices toolkit document in draft form.
