Attachment A <br />Why do you want to serve on this Commission? <br />I care about the community that I live in, and I want to contribute my related professional expertise and <br />energy into helping those who need to make informed decisions about the services our city provides <br />related to public works, environment and transportation issues. <br />What is your view of the role of this Commission? <br />I believe the role of the Commission is to advise the city council, city manager and the director of public <br />works on public works, environmental and transportation matters. <br />Civic and Volunteer Activities <br />Transportation Advisory Board Chairperson Saint Paul Technical College March 2010 – Present As a <br />member of the Transportation Program Advisory Committee, I serve as a resource and a connection to <br />the workplace for students, instructors and administrators. My focus is to keep faculty apprised of <br />business and industry needs by assisting the school in planning and implementing relevant curriculum. I <br />help to ensure programs are current and relevant to workforce needs. County Sheriff Volunteer <br />Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Jun 2014 – Present The Community Emergency Response <br />Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their <br />area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team <br />organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during <br />exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when <br />professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to <br />support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects <br />in their community. Ronald M. Hubbs Center for Lifelong Learning (Adult Basic Education) is a program <br />of the Saint Paul Public Schools' Community Education Department. Educational services are available to <br />adults who want to improve their basic skills, earn a GED, prepare for employment or post-secondary <br />education, or learn English. The Hubbs Center is also a partner in the Saint Paul Community Literacy <br />Consortium, a collaboration of agencies throughout Saint Paul that provide literacy services to adults in <br />our community.
