Many of 86
the city events have large resident turnout (Rosefest, Wild Rice Festival, Natural Resource events, 87
Flower Power, etc.). By identifying events that could be good opportunities for resident engagement, 88
the city could use staff, volunteers, commissioners and potentially a consultant to gather community 89
feedback. By having a relevant topic to open dialogue, these micro-engagement opportunities would 90
provide multiple benefits such as: 91
• Utilizing commissioners as community liaisons in micro-engagement activities provides 92
visibility for commission recruitment efforts. 93
• Using current city events reaches a variety of residents without asking for further 94
commitment or time from them. 95
• Allows residents one-on-one interaction providing a more personal approach to gathering 96
input/feedback. 97
98
In addition to the micro-engagement opportunities, the city could also opt for a larger, more 99
traditional, macro-engagement opportunity such as hosting facilitated listening sessions and/or 100
brainstorming sessions for the public. Review city events that would be
appropriate to leverage as potential
visioning engagement events. Identify
those that have high-levels of
participation, track and/or identify
potential stakeholders that attend. With
COVID impacting many city-related
events, it would be important to
understand what turnout looks like
before committing to using certain
events for information gathering.
2. Begin developing communication and
information to prepare the community
for visioning. Ensure the community is
aware of City Aspirations ahead of the
visioning process. This could include
articles in city newsletter sharing City
Aspirations, social media information,
discussions at commission and/or
council meetings, etc.
3. During this time frame staff will be
undergoing engagement training which
