Commissioner Arneson noted a specific area near the waterfall in Central Park that has small litter items on the ground. Commissioner Lenhart asked if there is something that the Commission can do to address or limit the amount of litter in the parks. The Commission discussed the potential sources of the litter. Commissioner Lenhart asked about an outreach schedulefor the Pocahontas Park name engagement. Staff relayed that there will be multiple larger community outreach opportunities along with more focused outreach towards the residents near Pocahontas Park. Also, many indigenous groups have been contacted or have reached out to staff regarding the project. One new name,utilizing the Dakota language, has already been submitted. It is anticipated that multiple name suggestions will be provided for the Commission later this year after being reviewed by indigenous groups or individuals. Commissioner Lenhart relayed that she would like to see the outreach plan and that she knows a resident who would like to propose the name of Friendship Park. She asked how potential name suggestions should be submitted by residents. Staff relayed that name suggestions can be submitted on-line. She also asked that the list of name suggestions potentially have the name meaning provided. Staff noted that the naming process should be thoughtful and diligent to ensure that the proposed name recommendation aligns with the spirit of the renaming project. The Commission discussed the proposed Campus Master Plan project and how it would potentially impact Parks and Recreation.
