May 11, 1954 at 8:00 P.M. <br /> <br />·491 <br /> <br />The Village Council met on me above date with the following members <br />present: Carlson, Salverda, Olson, Willmus and Hammersten. B.H. <br />Loftsgaarden, Village Attorney and Milner CarJey, Village Engineer <br />were also present. <br /> <br />Carlson moved, seconded by Willmus that the minutes of the previous <br />meeting of May 11 be approv~d according to the copies rrailed to the <br />members. Roll Call Ayes-(5) Nayes-(O). <br /> <br />David Roelofs, 156 Minnesota Ave. presented a petition to the Council <br />regarding a cement wall1hat a :Hr. Barney Schmie: is building on the <br />South side of his property in line where a road l1r. Roelofs intends <br />to construct a road. <br /> <br />Olson moved" seconded by Willmus, that the petition be I' eferred <br />tothe Village Engineer and Village Attorney for checking. Roll Call <br />Ayes-(5) Nayes-(O). <br /> <br />The Clerk read a copy of a letter £III'. Arthur Brahy, 1952 N. Snelling <br />Ave., had written to Mr. H.L. Jones, District Engineer of the State <br />Highway Department regarding a bad water condition in front of his horre <br />after the spring thaws or a heavy rain, His answer from JOIleS was that <br />it was a VilJage problem. There is a manhole directly across the <br />service drive from t his home where the water could be piped to, but <br />the Highway department will not allow a connection. <br /> <br />Letter from <br />Arthur Brahy <br /> <br />Olson moved, seconded by Carlson that the matter be referred to the <br />Village Attorney and Village Engineer. Roll Call Ayes-(5) Nayes- <br />(0). <br /> <br />Mr. Erickson of the Rosetown American Legion Post reported that they <br />had some money in their treasury and would like to invest it along <br />wi th t he if illage for some prope rty that could be rented out for parties <br />and dances. They asked that the Village furnish the lot and t hey would <br />erect the building as is done in a lot of other places. l1r. Loftsgaarden <br />reported that he was a member of the Legion and the East Side Post <br />purchased their own property and erected a building. He had never <br />heard of1his being done and wanted to knm.¡ the names o¥ the towns where: <br />this joint ownership WalS Ĺ“ing done. Mr. Erickson said he would <br />get more information. <br /> <br />Olson moved, seconded by Carlson that the matter be referred to the <br />Village Attorney. Roll Call Ayes-(5) Na~s-(O). <br /> <br />Loftsgaarden suggested that the Legion find a lot they are interested <br />in and if it is suitable for their use they could bring in some plans <br />and a permit could be issued. <br /> <br />Mr. Danielson of 1025 Ruggles asked about the possibility of a street light <br />at the' intersections of Oxford and Ruggles and Aglen and Ruggle s and <br />presented a petition from the adjoining property O'WIlers on the iIlUnediate <br />corners. <br /> <br />Street <br />Lights <br /> <br />Olson moved, seconded by Carlson that the petition be referred to the <br />Village Engineer with power to act.
