Alternative Materials <br />Recyclable plastics <br />• Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE #1) — commonly seen in plastic water bottles <br />• Very recyclable <br />• Not suitable for hot foods <br />• Clear and good for when food/beverage visibility is preferable <br />• High Density Polyethylene (HDEP #2) —commonly seen in milk jugs <br />• Less reactive with foods & beverages <br />• Can withstand more extreme hot & cold temperatures <br />• Not clear, but can be translucent <br />• Polypropylene (PP #5) <br />• Rigid PP is suitable for hot food <br />Commercially compostable products <br />• Must be BPI certified compostable or Compost Manufacturing Alliance certified <br />• Labels such as "biodegradable," "plant -based," "degradable," etc. are not certified compostable unless <br />they include the above certifications. <br />Aluminum containers <br />• Aluminum is easily recyclable <br />• Not all lids for aluminum takeaway containers are recyclable <br />
