Vice-Chair Hoag noted that he is not sure it is appropriate at this point, however, as the passing of
the police dog could be considered a “significant contribution” he questioned if the Commission
should consider that name. The Commission discussed that itmay not be appropriate for this park
renaming. However, it should be considered when a park needs to be named in the future.
Commissioner Brown motioned to amend the original motion to include Dakota Makoce
Park (Dakota Land) to the list of potential names for the renaming of Pocahontas Park.
Commissioner Matts-Benson seconded.
Roll Call
Ayes: Arneson, Baggenstoss, Boulton, Brown, Dahlstrom, Hoag, Lenhart, Matts-Benson,
Ybarra.
Nays: None.
Abstain: None.

Staff confirmed next steps in seeking feedback on the name suggestions with the Commission,
including:
The goal to ensure the names brought forward capture the spirit or theme behind the name
suggestions.
Are there pitfalls with any of the names to be aware of?
Are there any ideas or thoughts around the suggested names that the Commission should be
aware of?
Assistance with appropriate translations.
Any general name preferences from the seven names the Commission is considering.
6) STAFF REPORT
Staff provided a Thank You to the volunteers who participated in the Owasso Hills and
Pioneer Park playground builds. Both parks and playgrounds are open.

As part of the Accelerated Emerald Ash Borer Program over 240 ash trees have been
removed and 280 new trees planted. Also, 100 additional trees were planted in the parks as
part of a recent volunteer planting event.

The OVAL project remains on schedule. The planned opening date for the OVAL is
November 11. However, due to the warm weather that date may be delayed.

The EnVision Roseville process is under way and included successful engagement events at
the Wild Rice Festival and Spooktacular. The community survey is also available and staff
encouraged everyone to submit feedback.

5
