REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: April 24, 2023 <br />Item No.: 7.c <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Discuss Commission Interview Process <br />1 B ACKGROUND <br />2 The City Council adopted the Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan (SREAP) in July, 2021. The main <br />3 purpose of the Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan is to help us measure and significantly improve <br />4 our results with culturally diverse workforce, businesses, representation and programming. There are <br />5 three high-impact areas that serve as internal equity goals. These areas are identified as “problem <br />6 statements” in order for us to understand why this particular issue is a problem. The three high- <br />7 impact areas the city is currently working to improve are workforce diversity, commission diversity <br />8 and using an equity lens in decision making. <br />9 In January, 2022 staff provided an update to council on work related to the SREAP (Attachment A). <br />10 As part of this update, staff included recommendations regarding the commission interview process <br />11 based on data and stakeholder engagement.
