PAGE 3 SUSTAINABILITY NEWSLETTER <br />City of Roseville Public Works & Engineering <br />Positive Climate News <br />Minnesota state lawmakers aaree to `historic' environment and climate bill: <br />The $2 billion bill includes over $30 million to add solar panels to schools and pub- <br />lic buildings, $16 million for electric vehicle rebates, and $13 million for grants and <br />rebates to install residential electric heat pumps. <br />Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon fell by 68% in April: Relative to data <br />from April 2022, deforestation dropped sharply after new president Luiz Inacio Lu- <br />Ia da Silva pledged to combat illegal deforestation took office at the beginning of <br />2023. Logging is down 41 % in 2023 overall. <br />Nature Lawyers Up: A growing number of countries and courts say the environment should be en- <br />dowed with legal rights. This has been tested in Minnesota as well, in the case Manoomin, et.al.. v. <br />Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the first "rights of nature" case to go before tribal <br />court.
