33 4. Communication Items <br />34 Public Works Director Jesse Freihammer provided a brief review and update on <br />35 projects and maintenance activities listed in the staff report dated July 25, 2023. <br />36 <br />37 Sustainability Specialist Noelle Bakken updated the Commission on sustainability <br />38 projects. <br />39 <br />40 Member Mueller asked about the work being done at the pond, she knew the weir <br />41 needed to be adjusted and she wondered when that would happen. <br />42 <br />43 Mr. Freihammer indicated the weir is adjusted properly but when installed there is <br />44 some leakage going around the side of it and that needs to be corrected because too <br />45 much water is leaking. <br />46 <br />47 Member Hodder asked how the Fairview project is coming along. <br />48 <br />49 Mr. Freihammer explained the ramps have been opened a couple of days ahead of <br />50 schedule and he has not heard of any delays, so he anticipates this to be done around <br />51 August 18t'. <br />52 <br />53 Chair Ficek asked regarding the ped study on Snelling if the Commission could <br />54 learn more about that or be involved in that. <br />55 <br />56 Mr. Freihammer explained staff can set up a meeting. He reviewed the progress to <br />57 date. <br />58 <br />59 5. St. Paul Regional Water Presentation <br />60 Public Works Director Jesse Freihammer introduced Che Fie Chen and Justine Roe <br />61 from St. Paul Regional Water Services who gave a presentation to the Commission. <br />62 <br />63 Chair Ficek thanked Ms. Chen and Ms. Roe for the presentation. <br />64 <br />65 Member Mueller thanked Ms. Chen and Ms. Roe for coming to the meeting. She <br />66 indicated the presentation was fascinating. She noted she has the opportunity to <br />67 tour the existing facility a couple of years ago and it was so interesting and was <br />68 glad the tour is offered to the public. She thought it was always good to know <br />69 where the city's water is coming from and understand the process and have that <br />70 true appreciation for everything St. Paul Regional Water does. In preparation for <br />71 the meeting, she was excited to read that St. Paul Regional Water is adding <br />72 advanced oxidation and to go through the benefits of adding that. She indicated <br />73 one question she had regarding the fluoride is in the presentation it was stated that <br />74 the State requires fluoride be added to the water and she wondered where the <br />75 fluoride is sourced from. <br />76 <br />77 Ms. Roe explained it is a State law that fluoride has to be added to the water and <br />78 St. Paul Water Services gets its fluoride from Hawkins Chemicals.
