MOTEL 6 PROFILE INFORMATION
Motel 6 was founded in Santa Barbara, CA in 1962. The original
motel is still in operation with near capacity occupancy rates, one of
the highest in the chain. Motel 6 is the largest economy motel chain in
America by number of properties, more than 425 in 40 states, and second
in number of rooms, with more than 47,000.
The great success of the.company is due to a simple concept. The
awareness of the public is that Motel 6 prices are the lowest of any
national motel chain and that the rooms are clean and comfortable.
The average price of a Motel 6 room is 20 to 30 percent below other
economy/limited service motel chains, and about 50 percent below the na-
tional average for the lodging industry. Motel 6 recently adapted "flex-
ible" pricing. Earlier, all Motel 6 prices were the same across the country.
This permits Motel 6 to be quite competitive where needed. In addition, it
enables them to develop a motel in a location which otherwise might be too
expensive.
Motel 6 properties are considered functional, not spartan. Guests
know what to expect ... comfortable, clean rooms, a spotless bath and good
beds. In addition, there is above standard insulation so that the rooms are
quiet with no road noise. There is well lighted parking close to the rooms
and heated swimming pools in most locations. Virtually all Motel 6 locations
have at least one family restaurant next door.
While these are basic a,-comodations, standards have been upgraded to
satisfy the traveling public of the 80:'s. Motel 6 now accepts MasterCard,
Visa, Diners Club and Discover charge cards, free color television is avail-
able which includes two free in -room movies and in -room telephones with free
local phone calls.
