G <br />DIVISION 2 <br />SITE WORK <br />02200 - EARTHWORK <br />D. Barricades: Barricades, warning light signs and other items of protection <br />shall be provided and maintained <br />as required by the State regulations and <br />safety rules during the execution of this work. <br />E. Excavated material which is suitable for fill or backfill shall be <br />stockpiled on the site. Unsuitable material encountered shall be removed <br />from the site by the Contractor. <br />F. Maintain excavations in a clean condition and keep free of water at all <br />times. Protect bottoms of excavations from frost and freezing. Provide <br />temporary and permanent drainage of site area. <br />1. <br />If necessaryduring <br />r ng the progress of the work to interrupt the natural <br />surface drainage or flow of artificial drains, the Contractor shall <br />provide adequate temporary drainage facilities that will prevent <br />rr <br />erosion damage or unnecessary delay of the work, and shall restore <br />original drainage or construct proposed drainage structures as soon as <br />the work will permit. the Contractor shall ,provide and maintain <br />adequate drainage away from the road area building site during the <br />construction period. <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />G. Public Utilities: The Contractor shall send proper notice, make the <br />necessary arrangements and perform all required red services in the <br />e care and <br />maintenance of all utilities which may be encountered during this work. <br />The Contractor shall assume full responsibility and pay the costs for such <br />damage to these items. <br />1. Before beginning excavation, the Contractor shall consult with the <br />utility companies, city and county records to fully inform himself of <br />the location and extent of utilities in the site and surrounding area. <br />2. Comply with rules and regulations governing respective utilities. <br />Protect active utilities from damage; remove and relocate only as <br />directed. <br />5. MATERIALS <br />A. Sub -base Materials: Naturally or artifically graded mixture of natural or <br />crushed gravel, crushed stone, crushed slag, natural or crushed sand, <br />meeting the requirements of Minnesota Department of Transportation <br />Specification 3138, Class 3 aggregate base. <br />B. Drainage Fill: Washed, uniformly graded mixture of crushed stone, or <br />crushed or uncrushed gravel, with 100% passing a 1-1/2" sieve, and not more <br />than 51 passing a No. 4 sieve. <br />C. Backfill and Fill Materials: Provide acceptable soil materials for <br />backfill and fill, free of clay, rock or gravel larger than 2" in any <br />5264 <br />SECTION 02200 - 3 <br />
