DIVISION 2 <br />SITE WORK <br />02200 - EARTHWORK <br />dimension, debris, waste, frozen materials, vegetable and other <br />deleterious matter. Backfill shall be reasonably well sand, loamy <br />sand, or sand loam (U.S. Bureau of Soils Classificatio?raded <br />capable of the <br />specified compaction. <br />D. <br />Excavated Soils: If declared suitable by the Architect, these may be used <br />as fill material. <br />E. <br />Topsoil: Topsoil is defined as black earth or growing soil. Topsoil <br />shall be reasonably free from subsoil, clay lumps, stones, peat, brush, <br />objectionable weeds, or other litter subject to <br />rot or corrosive, excess <br />acid or alkali or any other material or substance that would be harmful to <br />plant growth or a hinderance to fine grading, to planting, or maintenance <br />operations. Topsoil shall not contain more than 15% <br />silt material. Top- <br />soil is to be approved by the Landscaping Architect before delivery to <br />site. <br />6. <br />STRIPPING AND STOCKPILING OF TOPSOIL <br />{ <br />A. <br />Prior to any cutting or filling operations, all usable topsoil and organic <br />soils shall be stripped and stockpiled as directed by the Architect. <br />7. <br />EXCAVATION <br />A. <br />Prior to footing excavation, arrange with soil exploration company to have <br />a soils engineer present at the site d+rring all footing excavations. The <br />soils engineer shall thoroughly inspect and test all footing excavations <br />at the depths called for to determine that suitable bearing material has <br />been <br />reached. In the event that at the levels required for footing <br />excavation it is determined there is insufficient bearing, footing depth <br />may be ordered deeper by the soils engineer after consultation with the <br />Architect. Contractor shall pay for these soils engineer services, <br />including personnel supervision costs, material analysis, and other tests <br />as required. <br />The Contract price shall be based on excavations to the levels indicated, <br />with minor variation for additional depth without extra costs. <br />Appreciable changes in footin elevations (up or down) will be adjusted by <br />change order (credit or extra to the Contract, as approved by the <br />Architect. <br />B. Excavate to lines, grade or subgrade elevations and dimensions indicated <br />on drawings or otherwise required to accommodate the work and its <br />installation. At least the last 6" of footing and trench excavation shall <br />be by hand. Support, shore, or sheath as required. Step downs shall be <br />vertical. Bottoms of footings, etc. shalt be level at all points. <br />5264 SECTION 02200 - 4 <br />
