Planting operations shall be conducted under favorable weather and <br />conditions during the following planting season, herein defined Spring <br />Planting Season April 1 to ,June 15, or Fall Planting Season September 30 <br />to December 15. Sodding may be done during entire Summer and in the <br />Fall. The growing season is herein defined as the period from May 1 to <br />September 30. At the option and on the full resonsibility of the <br />Contractor, planting operations may be conducted under unseasonable <br />conditions without additional compensatirn. <br />E. Where sod is terminated by walks, bituminous paving, and timber curbs, the <br />sod shall be I" below top of those surfaces. <br />F. Immediately after completing the sod placement on each area, the sod shall <br />be watered and compressed into the underlying soil by rolling and <br />tamping. The initial watering and rolling shall be sufficient to provide <br />firm contact and bound between Ehe sod and the underlying soil and provide <br />a smooth, even surface free of humps and depressions. The Contractor <br />shall continue with such a watering program as may be necessary to <br />establish and root the sod. <br />G. Lawns shall be protected and maintained by watering, mooring and replanting <br />to establish a uniform turf composed of the specified grasses and until <br />time of acceptance. Scattered bare spots, one of which is larger than I <br />sq.ft. will be allowed up to a maximum of 31 of lav,n area. The <br />Contracator shall provide a fence around the perimeter of newly sodded <br />areas shown on the drawings to protect the sod until it is firm and <br />adequately rooted. <br />S. MAINTEWICE AHO ESTAi1LISHMEUT <br />A. Maintenance shall begin lomediately after each portion of lawn is sodded. <br />Turf shall be protected and maintained by watering, mowing and replanting <br />as necessary until final acceptance. Scattered bare spots 1 sq.ft. or <br />smaller in area will be allowed up to a maximum of 3% of the turf area. <br />Grass shall be mowed to a height of 1-1/21 whenever the grass reaches an <br />average height greater than 3". 'deeds or any other undesirable vegetation <br />appearing shall be sprayed with are approved weed killer, and after <br />killing. greeds shall be raked and removed from the area. Care shall be <br />taken, that grass is well estabished before spraying. <br />B. If any portion of the turf area becomes gullied or otherwise damaged, the <br />Contractor shall repair the grade and resod as originally specified. <br />Areas failing to show a stand of grass shall be resodded by the Contractor <br />at his expense and as directed by the Architect. <br />5264 <br />SECTION 02901 - 5 <br />
