DIVISION 3
CONCRETE
03300 - CAST -IN -PLACE CONCRETE
C. Depositing:
1. General: Deposit concrete continuously or in layers of such thickness
that no concrete is deposited on concrete which has hardened
sufficiently to cause formation of seams or planes of weakness within
section. If a section cannot be placed continuously, locate
construction joints as indicated. Do not der^sit concrete which has
partially hardened or has been contaminated by foreign materials.
2. Segregation. Deposit concrete as nearly as practical in its final
position to avoid segregation due to rehandling or flowing. Do not
subject concrete to any procedure which will cause segregation.
3. Consolidation: Consolidate all concrete by vibration, so that
concrete is thoroughly worked around reinforcement, around embedded
items and into corners of forms eliminating all air or stone pockets
which may cause honeycombing, pitting, or planes of weakness. Do not
use vibrators to transport concrete within forms.
D. Protection:
1. Unless adequate protection is provided and approval is obtained, do
not place concrete during rain, sleet o' snow.
2. Do not allow rain water to increase mixing water nor to damage surface
finish.
3. When temperature of surrounding air is expected co be below 400 F.
during placing or within 24 hours thereafter temperature of plastic
concrete as placed shall be no lower then 55 F. for sections less
than 12" in any dimension, nor 500 F. for any other sections.
E. Bonding:
1. When specified, prepare surface of joints in accordance with one of
the methods specified under Joints and Embedded Items.
2. Dampen hardened concrete of construction joints and of joints between
footings and walls, joints in unexposed walls and all others not
mentioned below, (but do not saturate), immediately prior to placing
of fresh concrete.
9. SLABS
A. Preparation of subgrade for slabs on ground:
1. Subgrade shall be well drained and of adequate and uniform load -
bearing nature. Keep in place density of subgrade soils at least to
minimum indicated.
5264 SECTION 03300 - 6
1
1
1
1
E
1
