1
1
' DIVISION 3
CONCRETE
03300 - CAST -IN -PLACE CONCRETE
2. Keep subgrade free of frost before concrete placing begins. If
temperature inside a building where concrete is to be laced
is
freezing, raise temperature and maintain above 500 Ton enough
remove all frost from subgrade. 9 gh to
3. Where slab is placed directly on earth, keep subgrade moist at time
concreting. Allow no free water standing on subgrade nor an mudof
soft spots when concrete is placed. Y y or
4. Where noted on the drawings, at all floor drains, clean
o and
similar items in slab -on -grade, box out a hole 2' square insslabs,
allowing drains to be set after
floor has been installed.
B. Edge forms and screeds:
I. Set edge g forms and intermediate screed strips accurately to produce
designated elevati^ns and contours of finished surface sufficiently
strong to support vibrating screeds or roller pipe screeds, if nature
of finish specified requires use of such equipment. Align concrete
surfaces to contours of screed strips by use of strike -off templates
or approved compacting type screeds.
C. Placemen
t:
I. Carefully coordinate mixing and placing with finishing. Do not p lace
conrete on subgrade or forms more rapidly than it can be spread
straight -edges, and darbled or bull floated. '
op
before bleeding water has an opportunity to collectrontsurfaceerations
2. To obtain good surfaces and avoid cold joints, plan size of finfshin
crews with due regard for efforts of concrete temperature and g
atmospheric conditions on rate of hardening of concrete. If
construction joints become necessary, construct as required under
Joints and Embedded Items.
D. Jointing: Locate joints in slabs on
grade
are permitted. Other methods may be used atsthe ddiscretion aofcut joints
Contractor. Pour floor slabs in "strip" or "Checkerboard" panels in sizes
approved by Architect. Pattern shall be not larger than 30 x 30 grid lines). Provide isolation control and construction joints of type
and size indicated and place as shown. Isolate walls and columns from
floor.
E. Consolidation: Thoroughly consolidate concrete in slabs. Use internal
vibration along bulkheads of slabs on grade. Obtain consolidation of
slabs with vibrating screeds, roller pipe screeds, internal vibrators, or
other approved means.
F. Finish floor slabs as hereinafter specified under Article 13.
5264
SECTION 03300 - 7
