DIVISION 3 <br />CONCRETE <br />03300 - CAST -IN -PLACE CONCRETE <br />10. JOINTS AND EMBEDDED ITEMS <br />A. Construction joints: <br />1. Locate joints not indicated so as to least impair strength of <br />structure, subject to Architect/Engineer approval. Locate joints in <br />walls at tops of footings or floor slabs. Make joints perpendicular <br />to main reinforcement. All joints not shown on drawings are subject <br />to Architect/Engineer approval prior to construction. <br />2. Continue all reinforcement across joints. Provide keys and inclined <br />dowels as directed by Architect/Engineer. Provide longitudinal keys <br />at least 1-1/2" deep in all joints, in walls and between walls and <br />slabs or footings. <br />3. Clean surface of concrete at all joints thoroughly and remove all <br />laitance prior to placing adjoining concrete. <br />B. Expansi'on.Joints: <br />1. Do not permit reinforcement or other embedded metal items bonded to <br />concrete (except dowels in floors bonded on only one side of joints) <br />to extend continuously through any expansion joint. Locate expansion <br />joints as indicated. <br />2. Use premolded expansion joint filler of type required by Contract <br />Documents conforming to ASTM D-1751 or D-1752. <br />C. Other embedded items: <br />I. Place all sleeves, inserts, anchors, and embedded items required for <br />adjoining work or for its support, prior to concreting. <br />2. Give all contractors whose work is related to concrete or supported by <br />it, ample notice and opportunity to introduce and/or furnish embedded <br />items before concrete placement. <br />D. Placing embedded items: <br />1. Position expansion joint material and other embedded items accurately <br />and support against displacement.
