DIVISION 3 CONCRETE 03300 - CAST -IN -PLACE CONCRETE 10. JOINTS AND EMBEDDED ITEMS A. Construction joints: 1. Locate joints not indicated so as to least impair strength of structure, subject to Architect/Engineer approval. Locate joints in walls at tops of footings or floor slabs. Make joints perpendicular to main reinforcement. All joints not shown on drawings are subject to Architect/Engineer approval prior to construction. 2. Continue all reinforcement across joints. Provide keys and inclined dowels as directed by Architect/Engineer. Provide longitudinal keys at least 1-1/2" deep in all joints, in walls and between walls and slabs or footings. 3. Clean surface of concrete at all joints thoroughly and remove all laitance prior to placing adjoining concrete. B. Expansi'on.Joints: 1. Do not permit reinforcement or other embedded metal items bonded to concrete (except dowels in floors bonded on only one side of joints) to extend continuously through any expansion joint. Locate expansion joints as indicated. 2. Use premolded expansion joint filler of type required by Contract Documents conforming to ASTM D-1751 or D-1752. C. Other embedded items: I. Place all sleeves, inserts, anchors, and embedded items required for adjoining work or for its support, prior to concreting. 2. Give all contractors whose work is related to concrete or supported by it, ample notice and opportunity to introduce and/or furnish embedded items before concrete placement. D. Placing embedded items: 1. Position expansion joint material and other embedded items accurately and support against displacement.
