DIVISION 3
CONCRETE ,
03300 - CAST -IN -PLACE CONCRETE
12. REPAIR OF SURFACE DEFECTS
A, Repair surface defects including tie holes unless otherwises specified
immediately after form removal.
B. Repair of defective areas. Remove all honeycombed and other defective
concrete down to sound concrete. Dampen area to be patched and an area at
'least 6" wide surrounding it. Prepare a bonding grout using a mix of
approximately 1 part cement to 1 part fine sand passing a No. 30 mesh
sieve; brush into surface.
C. Make patching mixture of same materials and of approximately same
proportions as used for concrete except omit coarse aggregate. Mortar
shall consist of not more than 1 part cement to 2-1/2 parts sand by damp
loose volume. Produce a color matching color of surrounding concrete as
determined by a trial patch.
D. After surface water has evaporated from area to be patched, brush bond
coat into surface. Apply premixed patching mortar. Thoroughly
consolidate mortar into place and strike off. Keep patched area damp for
7 days. Do not use metal tools in finishing a patch in a formed wall
which will be exposed.
E. Tie Holes: After being cleaned and thoroughly dampened, fill tie holes
solid with patching mortar.
13. SLAB FINISHES
A. Floated Finish: After concrete has been placed, consolidated, struck off,
and leveled, begin floating. During or after first floating, check
planeness of entire surface with a 10' straight -edge applied at not less
than two different angles. Cut down all high spots and fill all low spots
during this procedure to produce a surface within Class B tolerance
throughout. Refloat slab immediately to a uniform sandy texture.
B. Troweled Finish: First float -finish surface. Next power trowel, and
finally hand trowel. First troweling after power floating shall produce a
smooth surface which is relatively free of defects but which may still
show some trowel marks. Perform additional trowelings by hand after
surface has hardened sufficiently. Final trowel when a ringing sound is
produced as trowel is moved over surface. Thoroughly consolidate surface
by hand troweling. Leave finished surface essentially free of trowel
marks, uniform in texture and appearance and plane to a Class B
tolerance. On surfaces intended to support floor coverings, remove any
defects of sufficient magnitude to show through floor covering by
grinding.
1
1
I
1
fl
1
1
1
Id
1
5264 SECTION 03300 - 10 1
