e <br />DIVISION 4 <br />MASONRY <br />' <br />04220 - MASONRY WORK <br />I. <br />Block Face Pattern: Unless otherwise indicated, lay all block in common <br />running bond. <br />J. <br />Concealed Common Brick: Lay as for brick, except that requirements f <br />q or <br />' <br />appearance and tooling are omitted, <br />K. <br />Lay hollow units with full mortar coverage on horizontal and vertical face <br />, <br />shells. Bed webs in mortar in starting course on foundations and in all <br />courses of piers, columns and pilaster, and where adjacent to concrete <br />reinforced and grout filled cavaties. <br />' <br />L. <br />Maintain 3/8" joint widths, except for minor variations required to <br />maintain bond alignment, unless otherwise indicated. Cut joints flush for <br />masonry walls which are to be concealed or to be covered by other <br />materials. Tool exposed joints slifatly concave, unless otherwise <br />indicated. <br />M. <br />As <br />work progresses, built-in items indicated and specified. Fill in <br />solidly with mortar around built-in items. <br />1. Two masonry courses under bearing plates, <br />2. Top course of all bearing walls and under beam and lintel bearings. <br />3. Jambs and heads of metal door bucks and frames, <br />4. For column fire protection as indicated on drawings. <br />5. There built-in items are to be embedded in cores of hollow masonry <br />units, place a layer of metal lath in joint below and fill core with <br />grout. <br />N. Provide continuous horizontal joint reinforcing as indicated. Embed <br />longitudinal side rods in mortar for entire length with a minimum cover of <br />5/8" on exterior side of walls and 1/2" at other locations. Lap <br />reinforcement a minimum of 6" at ends. Provide continuity at corners and <br />wall intersections by use of prefabricated "L" and "T" sections. Install <br />reinforcing at not more than 16" o.c. vertically. Install reinforcing 8" <br />o.c. in starter courses. Use continuous joint reinforcing for bond tie <br />between sythes. At openings, install additional reinforcing in 1st and <br />2nd bed joints 8" o.c, immediately above lintels and below sills and <br />extending a minimum of 24" beyond both sides of opening. <br />0. Weep holes shall be provided 24" o.c, in mortar joints of exterior sythe <br />of cavity walls along the bottom of the cavity over foundations, bond <br />beams, through -wall flashing and other water stops in wails.
