Where flashing is to be laid on or against
masonry, surface of masonry shall besmooth and free from projections which
might puncture flashing material. Provide well lapped joints (6) with
adhesive to form well sealed joints. Make laps in direction of water
flow. Install flashing to properly drain cavity or effectively prevent
moisture from steel. At head joints (on top of flashing) place rope wicks
24" o.c. Cut off flashing so it does not extend to brick face.
Q. No masonry work shall be permitted in below freezing temperatures unless
acceptable means are provided for heating materials and protecting
completed work to temperatures above 400F.
R. All cementitious and masonry materials shall be stored and covered to
protect these materials from moisture. Completed work shall also be
protected with waterproof covering.
6. REINFORCED HOLLOW MASONRY WALLS
A. All reinforced hollow masonry walls shall be constructed as follows:
1. All reinforced hollow unit masonry shall be built to preserve the
unobstructed vertical continuity of the cells to be filled. hails and
cross webs forming such cells to be filled shall be full -bedded in
mortar to prevent leakage of grout. All head (or end) ,points shall be
solidly filled with mortar for a distance in from the face of the wall
or unit not less than the thickness of the longitudinal face shells.
Bond shall be provided by lapping units in successive vertical courses
or by equivalent mechanical anchorage.
2. Vertical cells to be filled shall have vertical alignment sufficient
to maintain a clear, unobstructed continuous vertical cell measuring
not less than 2" x 3".
3. Cleanout openings shall be provided at the bottom of all cells to be
gilled at each pour of grout where such grout pour is in excess of 4'
high. Any overhanging mortar or other obstruction or debris shall be
removed from the insides of such cell walls. the cleanouts shallb e
sealed before grouting after inspection.
4. Vertical reinforcement shall be held in position at top and bottom and
at intervals, not exceeding 192 dia. of the reinforcement.
' I
5264
5. All cells containing reinforcement shall be filled solidly with
grout, Grout shall be poured in lifts of 8' maximum height.
