FML, Inc.
STS Project 93589
August 28, 1985
- -15-
should be compacted to at least 95 percent of the maximum Modified
Proctor dry density. In the areas where utilities underlie pave-
ment surfaces, backfill overlying utilities must be filled and
compacted in accordance with the constraints noted for fill place-
ment for pavement design. In other areas, fill overlying the
® utilities should be properly placed and compacted to at least 90
■ percent of the Modified Proctor dry density. Utility '
P Y y l y lines in the
existing fill area should be provided with flexible joints to allow
for some differential movement, and sufficient gradient to allow
flow to sewer systems, should some minor differential settlement
occur.
CONSTRUCTION CONSIDERATIONS
Within the natural soil areas of this site we do not anticipate
difficulties during excavation or construction due to round water . g g
seepage or rainwater accumulation, rather the fine sand subsoils
should allow relatively rapid infil,:ration of,rainwater. In the
existing fill area, subsoil conditions are variable and some
parched water conditions may be encountered durinc excavation. It
is our opinion that these conditions would be limited and could be
controlled with a standard sump pit and pump operation. Any
softened or loosened soils at the base of excavations should also
be removed prior to the placement of any structural fill or founda-
tions.
The sidewalls of any excavation must be adequately sloped or
R
sheeted and braced in order to provide adequate stability. This
must be carried out in accordance with pertinent OSHA regulations
in order to provide maximum safety of the personnel working in the
excavation. It is solely the responsibility of the contractor to
Make such provisions for personnel safety.
C
