•
E
Because they are relatively new, there is little or no data available on
the typical vehicle trip generation rates. Therefore, the trip generation
is estimated using a slightly different approach based on projected sales
for which a fair amount of data was available.
Table 1 shows projected sales by day of week based on an average annual
sales figure of $1,900,000 which is the average for existing Fuddrucker
restaurants. The average weekly sales of $36,540 was obtained by dividing
the annual sales by 52 weeks. The percentage distribution by day of week
is based on information obtained from other Fuddruckers franchisees and
Fuddruckers, Inc. Daily sales were converted to number of vehicles
assuming an average sale of $5.50 per person (the average for other
Fuddruckers restaurants) and 2.5 people per vehicle. Each vehicle accounts
for two trips; one in and one out.
Table 2 provides a comparison of the results obtained using sales figures
with results using typical rates in the ITE trip generation manual for both
a quality restaurant or supper club and a high turnover sit-down
restaurant.
TABLE 2
VEHICLE TRIP GENERATION COMPARISON
Average Trip Rate Average Weekday
per 1000 sq. ft. Size Vehicle Trips
QUALITY RESTAURANT 74.9 7,991 sq. ft. 599
HIGH TURNOVER SIT-DOWN
RESTAURANT (e.g., Denny's) 1Q,-4.4 7,991 sq. ft. 1,314
FUDDRUCKERS 7,991 sq. ft. 740
As can be seen, Fuddruckers would generate slightly more trips than a typi-
cal quality restaurant but not as many trips as a high turnover sit down
restaurant.
HOURLY DISTRIBUTION OF SITE GENERATED TRIPS
Hourly traffic volumes are used to analyze the expected impact on a road
system caused by the additional traffic associated with a new development
in an area. Usually the analysis is done during the peak hours on the
adjacent street system which usually occurs between 7:00 and 8:00 AM and
4:30 and 5:30 PM. Table 3 shows the typical hourly distribution of traffic
generated by a Fuddruckers restaurant for the average weekday, Friday and
Saturday. Again this data was based on information supplied by other
Fuddruckers franchisees and Fuddruckers Inc.
Figure 4 shows a comparison of the hourly site generated trips with hourly
traffic volumes on the frontage road near the site. Figure 5 compares the
hourly traffic volume:' on the frontage road, with and without the
Fuddruckers restaurant, with typical hourly traffic volumes on Snelling
7
